Sounds like they will build these new KH along a busy street so anyone walking by can just walk in. Then they will probably have brothers and sisters in the front lobby welcoming people, answering questions and handing out literature. This is not my mothers religion anymore. Seems like there goal is to become more efficient in the witnessing work. Especially in metropolitan areas where mostly condos and door to door witnessing is becoming harder and harder to do. I wonder if there will still be banging on doors? -

will be discussed = will be presented and you have to accept it (and no discussion is allowed)
I remember when they used to vote on something in the KH about contributing to the society. It was like, "I motion we send the KH surplus money to the WT to further the kingdum work". "I second that motion". "All in favour raise your hand". Well you knew it was a farce because these motions all were unanimous. I do recall one brother question that maybe we should not send all the money as it would be nice to keep this in case of an emergency. I thought he made a good point but was vilified by the rest of the elders for questioning their motion.

I just went to a "wordly" funeral/memorial service.
by William Penwell inas my topic stated, i just came back from a co-worker memorial service that was not a witness.
the minister did get into the religious stuff a bit but that was expected.
i just respectfully listened.

I am fully aware of the scripture that says God works in mysterious ways but I'll be damned if anyone from any religion will convince me that the Lord dropped that tree on that school bus with three innocent children in it because heaven needed three more angels.
Also can you imagine the horror those poor little girls may have experienced just before they died? Then they say it is a loving god. I mean if an all powerful god wanted to call them to heaven at least he could have taken them peacefully in their sleep.
I've been to funerals where everyone has been laughing because of the stories and anecdotes about the character who's departed. That's surely the way to be sent off - with your friends and relatives remembering the best about you and what you were like.
Yes there was a few times where they had the people in attendance laughing. If you knew the diseased you would know she was very out going and enjoyed a good laugh.

As my topic stated, I just came back from a co-worker memorial service that was not a witness. The minister did get into the religious stuff a bit but that was expected. I just respectfully listened. Then they had different ones stand up and pay tribute to the individual and the floor was open to anyone else that wanted to say something. This is good although it dragged the service out a bit. I think all together it was close to an hour.I like the idea that friends can say something on behalf of the deceased unlike dub funerals where it is all a big sales pitch for the religion.
Now the only thing I had trouble with is on the handout it says that "god had called this person to heaven" and "that he only takes the best". Not meaning to offend anyone here but what a load of garbage. So god in his infinite wisdom leaves the bad ones here on earth? Also what type of a loving god kills someone with an awful disease just because he has called them to heaven? Just another reason why I do not believe in a god.

I came to these conclusions 40 years ago. Just remember that 99.9% of the population are not JW's, so you have a whole new world out there to discover. Just as there was in the congregation, there are good and bad people. You just have to be careful who you choose for friends. -

I wouldn't count on the present government doing anything about these laws. -

"Why are we supposed to be happy when people are killed?" From a 10 year old
by stuckinarut2 ini was really overjoyed to hear a 10 year old in the hall say this the other day.
she was sitting behind us and whispered to her mum during the meeting:.
"so mummy, why are we supposed to be happy when jehovah kills people, including my friends at school?

Even children can see through the BS.
When I think back growing up as a dub this was so evil to have poisoned a child's mind to look at the class mates differently as if they are evil and condemned to die at Armageddon. It took me years to look at "worldly" people like the same as myself.

Wow - Scientology is so similar to Jehovah's Witnesses
by Illuminated ini recently watched this excellent interview with ex members of scientology.
i was blown with how much former members sound like ex jehovah's witnesses.
both organizations are so similar.. here's a link to the interview:.

Scientology is similar to the JW's because they are both cults.
Funny you should mention about how the WT won't attack Scientology. I recall one time when I was telling my brother about a documentary about Scientology and he defended Scientology. He said it is like ex dubs talking against the WT. Who are you going to believe a disgruntled ex dub or the WT? He said the same as Scientology, that can you believe ex disgruntled members of what they have to say about Scientology? I was wondering if he got that from WT literature. The thing is the WT Tare so quick to jump on say ex Catholics who speak out against the Catholic church.

Counting service time in a creative way
by nevaagain incouting time and, how to count time while doing as little service as possible is often a hot topic around witnesses.
i even overheard pioneers discussing about it.
they call it "creative time counting" (i translated that phrase from a different language so bear with me ;-).

As a good dub I would never think of count time I didn't put in. I would try to drag out the time like what was mentioned by other posters. I know some ex dubs that would admit that they fudged their hours just to get the service overseer off their back. -

"Satire" is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement.
